Company History
The HVGL was concieved in November of 2007 by Jeff Young and James Kamakahi. The idea was a place where gamers could relax, have fun and not only compete with each other but socialize and learn from each other. In January we decided to test the waters and held our first free play session and was a success.
In February of 2008 the HVGL recieved its official business liscense as a Non-Profit Organization. We also recieved our first sponsor who is still with us today-Razor concepts in uptown pearlridge. We also helped out the community by doing beach clean ups, as well as participating in charity walks.
In June of 2008 we did our first big charity event for the Hawai'i Food Bank. The First Annual Street Fight for Hunger. We partnered with Hawaiian Brian's Billiards and Shoryuken.com to hold a big tournament to raise money and food donations. It went well and we decided to continue supporting the food bank.

As the months passed we did tournaments to help schools fundraise such as Mililani High School and the University of Hawaii Business club. In November of 2008 we stepped up our publicity and held a Madden Football tournament where the winner won two tickets to the NFL Pro Bowl and the Official Pro Bowl VIP party.
June of 2009 had finally come around and we geared up for our 2nd Annual Street Fight for Hunger. This time we partenered with Blockbuster, the Hawai'i Food Bank, Shoryuken.com, Vacations Hawaii among others to make the biggest street fighter tournament we could possibly make. It was the most successful charity event we have had to date. The winner of the tournament went on to Las Vegas all expenses paid and represented Hawai'i at the Evolution championship series national tournament with a semi final seeded spot.

At the end of July of 09 we held the Smash Hawaii Invitational that was the biggest Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament in Hawai'i. Players from the mainland flew in for this tournament that spanned an entire weekend. After these big tournaments we held smaller tournaments every month.
As we aproach a new year we can only hope that our support from the gaming community continues as well as our ability to support the community.
